The right time to begin orthodontic treatment

The treatment performed during this period is called the first stage treatment. Primarily at this stage, the growth and development of the jaws are controlled so that the permanent teeth will erupt into the correct position.

We strongly recommend that children receive consultation from an experienced orthodontist, as many children who have first stage treatment will later require further treatment on their permanent teeth. This factor will be important in deciding the proper course of treatment.

Treatment for protruding upper teeth:

When a patient's upper jaw is bigger than their lower jaw, the growth of the upper jaw is controlled using an orthodontic appliance.

Treatment for a protruding lower-lip and jaw:

If a patient's upper jaw is smaller than their lower jaw, and also the lower lip and jaw are protruding, the growth of the upper jaw can be induced using an orthodontic appliance.

If the lateral teeth occlude correctly but the front teeth do not

In this case we treat the patient with an orthodontic appliance which prevents tongue thrusts and this also controls the growth and the development of the jaw.

When caries cause deciduous teeth to fall out prematurely:

If a deciduous tooth falls out due to tooth decay, the first permanent molar may incline anteriorly. If this occurs, other permanent premolars cannot erupt into their correct position. Therefore, an orthodontic appliance is used to reposition the first permanent molar to its correct position, and to guide the other permanent premolars to their proper positions as they erupt.

When to begin orthodontic treatment:

It is important that your child seeks consultation from an orthodontic specialist at the earliest opportunity. If treatment is necessary, a specialist will perform corrective action while the child's jaw, face and teeth are still growing.

(We accept patients seeking consultation only.)
