An edgewise appliance called a bracket is attached to each tooth in order to force the teeth to move into correct alignment. This requires 2-3 years depending on the type of treatment, followed by a retention period. During the retention period a patient must visit the dental hospital 4-5 times every 6 months. When the retention period is over, all the treatment is completed.
