You can receive orthodontic treatment even if you have dental caries

There is no need to delay orthodontic treatment due to dental caries. Orthodontic treatment is possible if you have the dental caries treated.

How to brush your teeth properly?

Oral hygiene control is very important for successful orthodontic treatment. However, once an orthodontic appliance is placed, brushing becomes difficult and often the patient's mouth becomes unhygienic. We show the patient how to brush his/her teeth effectively while the orthodontic appliance is being fitted.

The hospital's Department of Preventive Dentistry can also demonstrate brushing techniques. Treatment is preceded by the application of fluoride and a sealant to fill any small gaps on the bite planes of the occlusal surfaces.

In addition, we provide intra-oral cleaning using dental instruments at each visit in order to help control oral hygiene.

Even though we provide intra-oral cleaning at each visit, daily care at home is most important; brushing teeth at least twice a day. We give advice to our patients on how to brush their teeth effectively and assist them in all aspects of oral hygiene planning.

If your teeth decay during orthodontic treatment

If tooth decay should arise during orthodontic treatment, the treatment will be stopped and the tooth decay will be dealt with first. We can refer you to a dental practitioner in your vicinity, or to the departments of Preventive Dentistry, Oral Treatment, or Pediatric Dentistry in the dental hospital. Once the tooth decay has been treated, orthodontic treatment can resume.

(We accept patients seeking consultation only.)
