Those who have misaligned teeth, but whose jaws are the correct shape and size.

After

These pictures show what you obtain after treatment.

During Second Stage Treatment, an edgewise appliance called a brace, is attached to each tooth so that the growth and development of the jaw can be controlled and teeth can be forced to move into correct alignment for a normal bite.

This procedure requires 2 to 3 years, depending on the type of treatment.

Once teeth are aligned and a normal bite is obtained, the next step is to stabilize teeth at their correct position. This is called "retaining." During the retention period a patient must visit the dental hospital 4-5 times every 6 months. At the end of the retention period the treatment is completed.

Those whose jaws are disproportionate

In certain cases patient's jaw/jaws are disproportionate, and as a result our department may collaborate with the departments of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery and Plastic Surgery to eliminate this problem. A patients jaw may appear disproportionate due to a severely protruding lower lip and jaw, or conversely a protruding upper jaw or the patient has a large gap between their upper and lower front teeth. By treating the patient for this type of problem at Junior or Senior High School, patients can have proportionate jaws in the future when they reach adulthood.
